I was expecting him to be more reserved than he was. I wish more authors would do this!!!!!!!! Another character comes out and says “im bisexual” on the page! I noticed in Heartland (even though it’s the seventh book in the series it’s the first one I read) the author used the phrase “every gender” and honestly it’s just the little things like this that goes a long way to making a story lgbtq-inclusive, even when the book follows a straight couple. The author even uses the term “asexual” on the page (although no confirmed ace characters as of yet) which is pretty cool. I also love how queer friendly this book is. I never would’ve fucking thought in a million years that I would be falling in love with some romance series about a farmer family but I have. Jeez I just want this farmer family to adopt me. This book so wonderfully and beautifully explores trauma.

But I do think these books can be read as standalones!!! I do think I am going to try and read the rest of the series in order because there were a few things where I was like wait what? Did I read that right that Griff is friends with his ex? And his fiancé and his ex are going into business together? Like how does that work? Basically I want more context for the series. I did find myself missing out a bit more on some background stuff in this book than I did with Heartland, but not enough to make me lost or confused. I liked how each book can be read as a standalone. And then I read this one only because they mentioned Zach also came from the compound in Heartland. There are seven books in this series and apparently I’m just not going to read them in order.

As the two work together they begin to grow closer. Four year ago he was tossed out from a religious cult. So her friend invited her to come stay at her family’s farm for a bit to heal.
